Work experience with Azure Design
A guide for work-shy students being forced to do some real graft for a change
It's that time of year again when we get inundated with requests for students to come in and do some free slave labour. Azure loves students - we love their Mighty Boosh haircuts, their ability to nurse a pint for two hours and the fact that they're too young to remember Esteban and the Mysterious Cities of Gold. Bless them all. If you're hoping to come in and learn the ropes, we can't wait to hear from you, but before we do, a word to the wise...
You might think that your kind offer to come to our office and hang about for a week talking about bands we've never heard of and working for free is a no brainer for us - what could we possibly have to lose? In actual fact though, it's a little bit more complicated than you might think.
Firstly there's the resources - because of the chuffing high cost of hardware and software needed by our team to create the world's finest websites and print collateral, we don't tend to have many spare computers hanging around waiting for the caress of idle fingers. And even if you've got your own lap-top, we can get a little short of space.
Secondly there's the time it takes us to show you what to do. For the talented amongst you, this isn't huge, but to make it worth your while even the very best tax-dodging Netto-shoppers amongst you need a certain amount of feedback, encouragement and support.
"So, are you telling us to bong off then?" - Absolutely not!
We were all budding designers or developers once and we all know how useful work experience can be. Not only that, we like having you around. But because of the number of requests we get and the issues outlined above, we have to be quite selective in who we take on work experience.
To help us select who will benefit most from a placement with us, it would be extremely useful if you could follow the instructions on the right hand side of this page. Thanks for your interest in doing your work experience with Azure Design - good luck!
